I would like to know how people feel about the Hispanics on the Mural. I don't find them offensive but I have lived here my whole life and Burros and Siestas and Sombreros are just part of the legend. They look like cartoon characters. My dad was in the navy but he doesn't look anything like Popeye.

I believe that is why Speedy Gonzalez and Slowpoke Rodriguez were put to rest. Seems with a landmark like Mission drive in they would have put something up more cohesive.

OK what if New Orleans replaced the "Cafe Du Monde" with a "Dunkin Donuts!"

Not to mention the Frito Bandito or the Taco Bell chihuahua. It shouldn't be that big a deal to put something else there.

I think it's all a pathetically stupid argument. Whatever it depicts is not recognizable so who in their right mind cares! I think they should raze the entire screen. The Trail Drive In marquee should have been saved instead. It was restored just before being demolished for a nationwide auto commercial. Reason for that is it was the best marquee of all!

The original Mission Drive In mural was of San Jose Mission with it's bell "ringing" in neon. It was a work of art in itself.

I find nothing offensive about the new mural, but I tend to like to go "back to the future"!

The Trail Drive In mural was very impressive in it's own right, too. A cowboy watching over a herd of cattle. The cowboy was smoking a cigarette, so that would probably get the PC police in an uproar, too.

I do not take any offense to the mural. There is an old motel nearby where I work called the Siesta Inn and Suites. Their sign has a fellow sitting up against a Saguaro cactus. He has his sombrero low over his head and is wrapped up in a sarape. Unless I missed them, I haven't heard of any complaints about the sign.
