You're confusing having a gift shop inside, and having a gift shop in the main part of the exhibit.

For example, an art gallery might have a gift shop near the entrance/exit. It does not have it on the 3rd floor with the Rembrandt exhibit. You don't need to walk through it. I'm also pretty sure I've never seen shot glasses and other made-in-China trinkets for sale at art galleries and historic sites around the world, but then again I've only seen 40 countries on 6 continents so perhaps I'm wrong. Could you imagine going to the Sphinx in Egypt and buying a shot glass?

In context, the Alamo has a gift shop inside the walls of the mission, 20 feet from the chapel. You exit the chapel and you're right at the entrance to the gift shop. How tacky and disrespectful is that?

Unless you want to start making massive donations to them I'm not sure they have much of a choice. They need to get money from somewhere.

These are the original "walls of the mission". The front of the Alamo as we see today was an inner-courtyard.

Everything inside the original walls of the mission is tacky, there is more than just a gift shop, which alone is not so bad, but all these other tourist traps that have nothing whatsoever to do with the Alamo's legacy or do any of their funds contribute to the maintaining of the shrine.

Is it built or under construction?

Other than Frost Bank, is this the most prominent project in the central part of downtown, which is under construction, about to begin construction, or recently completed?

If not, can someone identify the others?

Weston has not only the iconic skyline changing Frost HQ tower planned for Dow town but also HIGHEISE residential buildings as well.

Not to mention he bought the Rand building and moved Geekdon there as well as renovated the building.
