We are moving to San Antonio this summer. We will have 7th, 4th and Pre-K kids. What are the best neighborhoods in the North Central Area? Schools to avoid?
Thanks for any and all advice from locals!!!

Alot of factors determine the "best" location...whats your price range? what sort of amenities are you looking for in the neighborhood or area? How much traffic/commute are your looking at? A few more details would help answer better.

You will probably be in the Northeast School District. You should familiarize yourself with their web site, for a starter.

Northside ISD, Northeast ISD, SCUC ISD are the school districts you should look at.

If you dislike rush hour traffic, my recommendation would be to stay north of 410, south of 1604, west of 281 and east of Vance Jackson Rd. It's hard to go wrong in that area.

As a general rule, the closer to 1604 you get, the better the schools. On the NEISD side Hubner elementary is very good, also Hidden Forest. On the NISD side Blattman is one of the best in the city.

Best areas to look would be Inwood, Shavano Park, Deerfield, Rogers Ranch. Some nice neighborhoods along Bitters south of Blanco go to less desirable schools.

Take a look at greatschools.net for school ratings.

Those are all very pricey neighborhood relatively speaking. Look into areas near 10 and 1604 as well-near UTSA and De Zavala even down to Wurzbach for some less expensive, yet equally good areas for schools.

I would add to this as a possiblity the area between 410 and 1604, east of 281 and west of Jones Maltsberger.
