Recently laid off and need to work.

I have a BA and 10yrs of admin experience in nonprofits/govt/healthcare.

A google search turns up many agencies, some w/negative google reviews so am not sure where to begin.

I worked at appleone in 2004 and was given minimum wage type jobs pretty quickly but i'm hoping not to return to that.

I would like to move into the for-profit world and temping seems like it would help me test the waters. A mistaken assumption?
All help is greatly appreciated

BTW I signed up for Deacon, Snelling and Tristarr per earlier thread, just seeking more guidance from those "who've been there done that."

What type of work are you looking for ? I do independent contract work full time and decided not to be in an office type job setting since this pays more and is more enjoyable.

question :
been asked to provide day and month of birth (not year) + last three (3) digits of social security number to an agency that is presenting me for a job . this agency is from out of state .
given limited amount of information, harm ?
have researched agency . just seems odd .

I would say it depends on the agency. They might be just doing a background check.

That little bit of information they are asking for will not be enough to do a background check. I'm in the investigative industry so I speak from experience. They could be using that information as a file number in their employee database for identification purposes.

Hi Eastontracks,
I am curious about your out of office work - what do you do?

I have extensive grant writing experience, so health research and technical writing would be preferable. I've been applying at UTHSCSA and UTSA. I did write a few grants and did some editing recently as a consultant but not steady enough work.

Thanks all.
