Go to your realty search engine - and search for rentals 1 acre or larger. Try zip codes like 78259, 78260, 78261.

There are home with acreage up by Bulverde/Evans - East of 281, North of 1604. Some of the neighborhoods go to Johnson or Reagan High Schools in the NEISD (Very good schools - offer AP classes.) Some of them are in the Comal school district, Smithson Valley High School.

There are also some homes by I-10, Fair Oaks Ranch etc.

Mostly to get 1 acre or more, you are going to get houses that sell for $500K or higher, rentals are difficult to find and will probably be at least $1800 or more.

If you are looking to buy - I'd recommend looking into Fossil Creek or Fossil Ridge subdivisions (78261 area code.) I don't think there are many rentals in there currently however.

You can find properties that meet your requirements within the city limits. It all depends on your budget. Homes in Shearer Oaks for example, have large lots (1-5 acres) but rarely come on the market. I could not find any rentals currently and few houses come up for sale and when they do tend to be higher priced. The area is inside 1604 off of Blanco. Churchill is shown as the high school. There are many possibilities outside the city limits in just about every price range. Fair Oaks Ranch has great schools, acreage, and homes for rent. It is also close convenient to shopping and the commute into San Antonio is easy. Tell your daughter that a hen came into my life a few years ago and I think she is the best pet ever. I wish you all the best and hope that you find a great place to live here.
