Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for a kid-friendly hotel on the Riverwalk. My children are 2 & 3. We're hoping to find something nice but not too expensive. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks!

What do you mean by kid friendly? Your best bet is to book on a 3rd party site. If you book directly from the hotel your going to pay at least 2x as much per night. Any of the major(marriott/hyatt/crowne plaza.....)hotels on the river will suit your needs. They are all fairly new(furniture) wise. The only advice/suggesiton I can give you is. The Crowne Plaza Riverwalk(while directly on the river) is a good 3 to 4 blocks from the action. Some people get upset when they stay there and are not right in the middle of everything

I'm glad you mention that! Where is the "action"? That would be upsetting to have a 3 or 4 block walk to the fun stuff.

And by kid friendly I just mean a place that has decent sized rooms and has some conveniences geared towards families (fun pool, play area, room enough for cribs, etc)

All the major brands will fit that bill. The only down side to them is, You have to pay for parking(on average $25 a night) and none of them offer a free breakfast.

If your family enjoys walking then consider El Tropicano, the first hotel built on the Riverwalk, or Hotel Havana. Both are a bit away from downtown but are midway between the Pearl and Downtown. Walk to both but on different nights and enjoy the scenery. Then hop on a river taxi at least once to go from town back to your hotel. If your kids were a little older they would really like the locks and dam in action.

They are even farther away then the Crowne. The river taxi can get really expensive for a family to use daily.

I always recommend the Hyatt, but for a seriously kid friendly one, the Hyatt Hill Country which is outside downtown. Expensive, but very kid friendly, especially during the summer.

Is it really so far to walk? I walk around there with my 2 yr old daily. He loves to walk along the river!

Personally, I'd prefer to stay a few blocks off of "all the action" with kids - it's a little quieter.

Most of the major chains are kid friendly. Probably the only places I can think of that are not are the Valencia and a few of the B&Bs.

I stayed at the Drury Inn (the big one that used to be a bank) and at the time was not charged for parking. However, this was shortly after it opened so things might have changed. They do have a rooftop pool, so that might be of interest for you.

They are not that far and that was why I recommended trying the river taxi at least once assuming others would find it expensive and would not use it often if at all. Furthermore I would find it more functional to use the river taxi to go back to your hotel at least once rather than just going up and down the river once without a purpose other than to sight see.
