Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there were any water stores in the North SA area (or anywhere for that matter) that offer refills of water juggs (ex. 5 gallon bottles). I know that places like HEB have them, but I'd rather have my water coming from better sources.

Not sure I understand "better sources." AFAIK all of those stores and kiosks get their water from SAWS, since it's now the water utility for all of Bexar County.

I've seen water refill kiosks in the parking lots of a few strip centers inside 410.

Most Wal-Mart Supercenters offer water refill stations.

I was referring to stores that have dedicated and large room-sized filtration systems, not just the small refill stations that I've mentioned already.

Have you tried the refill stations yet? We've been using the one outside of HEB for a while now and you can taste the difference between it and tap water. Also, now that we're used to that water, when we buy multipacks of bottled water, it tastes a little salty compared to the water from the big jugs, not sure why.

I was like you, at first...I wanted spring water, or at least water that I thought something major had been done to, so I knew why I was paying for it instead of just using tap water, but my desire for savings and convenience won out over my desire for spring water, and we tried the refill station. I'm glad we did, we're saving money and pleased with the water we're getting.

May I ask where you guys live that you pay for water rather than drink tap water?
Believe me, I'm not passing judgment. I'm on a well and take my own water everywhere I can. I will even pass on water in some restaurants.
I love my well!!!

I live in west Bexar county. Our water comes from Bexar Met (I know, supposedly they are gone, but they're still billing us and reading our meter, so they're still here) and you can always smell the water when it comes out of the tap, smells like chlorine and there are white flakes in it. It's not old pipes where I live, something is just funky about the water and none of us can drink it. I use bottled water in recipes also, unless it will be boiled.

Wow, that's really sad that they can charge you for water you can't even drink.
It must be a pain in the butt to have to go get the water all the time, not to mention the extra expense. I will always wonder if it's you I see now.

Well, we still use plenty of tap water, for bathing and laundry and stuff like that. I spend about $3 a week on water, not enough to break the bank. We all quit drinking soda when we got the water cooler, so we're seeing cheaper grocery bills and the water doesn't feel like much of a hassle compared to all those soda bottles.

a while ago I ran into a crazy old man at an Office depot, He claimed and showed me a nice federal report, Apparently the water here in our area is contaminated with plutonium from camp bullis (his claims not mine) and he had some machine with a probe. He took me to that water fountain next to the restrooms and he tested that water and that machine thing started making noised and the needle was rising up. My guess were the PH levels were a bit high. but nonetheless it was awkward because supposedly the city council is aware of the problem but they choose to ignore it.
