I'm all against big government, wasting money on stupid projects, and pretty much everything else the current federal government is doing, but I think there is some need here in WC. I would propose taking at least part of that extra almost $361K and investing in a real security service that can do what BCSD obviously cannot. It obviously will not cost that much for the service, so we should probably be able to refund the remainder and roll back the latest increase in dues. There is obviously a need for increased security, especially with the section 8 people and the other more affordable housing projects that have sprung up around us. That combined with a lot of crappy parents who cannot manage their kids has created a need for a full-time (during the hours of darkness) security force. We could also put up some cameras and I think that will lead to a dramatic change in our current status quo.

BTW, FYI- when you transfer text from Word to this board it is best to copy it from Word, paste it into notepad, and then copy it from notepad and paste it onto the board. That will eliminate all the formatting information that transfers with the text.

so nobody else hear that sound? I'm about 100% positive it was a gun and it was a powerful one too. Sounded more like a rifle than a hand gun or shotgun.

Maybe we can bring this back to the point of the discussion now which is paying money out when we don't need to do so.

Yeah, its only $10 a month, and if your property taxes go up $20 a month, and your cable goes up $2 a month, and your electricity goes up $15 a month, and .... The point is that it all adds up and that people need to have control of spending their own money.
Alright, all ball-breaking aside. You acknowledged that it is indeed $10/month per household. Now, let's move onto your line items.
Do you know how much is left on this note for line item 8128? This one item is more than 14% of the entire budget.

"""8128 delete $168,000 (after one-time payoff of Community Center; estimated interest savings of $50,000 annually)"""

This could be one mighty high payoff. How do you plan to satisfy the note? As some of have discussed earlier, the area is loaded with military. Most of which use WC (and SA) as a stopping place and are "out of here" in a few years. It'll be tough to get a one time assessment approved with folks that aren't here too long.

Didn't hear the noise but my wife said she heard "explosions" a few times today. Might be construction related.

No, I don't know the note amount but think that if it can't be paid off, or close to paid off, then it shouldn't have been approved to the extent that it was. Of course, its on the books now and has to be dealt with. How much is the cash reserve? Could that be applied towards paying this off? What is the interest rate? Has a refi been looked at now that rates are so low? Even if this line was deleted from my suggestions, there are still about $200,000 left to consider cutting...just from what I quickly suggested.

Lets not even bring up a special assessment! That would only pour more money into the HOA hoppers.

If I can remember, the original note for the 25 acres, club house, and pool was around $750,000.

wc2005 -I've been away from the computer a bit. I want to tell you I can read small print and to you I say BRAVO.
Those budget deletions are fantastic. Although I read the budget I missed that we are paying $12,000.00 / year for Office Cleaning? You are 100% correct by stating that the Office Staff should clean the office. This is commonplace in many offices.
The $4000.00 spent on a Colored Newsletter is a waste. I would really like to find out how many folks read it anyway. If it weren't for me reading it my wife would put it directly into the recycle container.

The one thing I have never understood is why we cannot have Garage Sales at our homes. We more than likely would not particpate since we donate to charities. Not all 3400-3600 home would participate. I see neighborhoods about the size of ours that have them 2-3 times each year. Most folks just park and walk so I don't think we would look like the City of Windcrest at Christmas

I wanted to let you know that when I spoke of what we get for our dues I was speaking of the ammenities. As you know I agree with you that the money is not well spent.
