I keep the doors locked at all times, but only turn on the alarm at night. Mine is also monitored and we've accidentally tested it several times...

I have done that also. I tried to let our dog out at 3am and set the alarm off. I am sure our neighbors appreciated that!

What they are saying is that these morons case the house..make sure no one is home...and then strike. Unless you have a ghost with a dead-on aim..they probably won't be shot.

You would be surprised what an experienced burglar can do. I won't go into details here, (I refuse to offer a "how to".)

My neighbor gave me the scoop today on the same break-in. Apparently they rung the doorbell, waited for no answer and then broke in through the back door, the alarm was not set. I guess they stole some stuff from her purse, not sure if they got away with much else before she came out of the bathroom looking for the noise she heard. They were gone before she could identify anyone. Oh and BTW the house was on Barkston, 2nd daylight break-in for Barkston in 6months!!! The neighbor who filled me in also lives on Barkston and had her mini-van stolen right from her driveway one night about 8months ago. The punk kids that did it got caught when they ditch the van to make a run for it and left a wallet in the van.

It seems alot of these crimes are young people and from what I hear get scared off easily .. hopefully some strong lights, an alarm system, and a few large barking dogs would be a good security system?? My hubby gets REALLY into gadgets especially home security.. he wants cameras, lights, and biometric door lock .. lol ! I'm sure he'll really go to town when we get a home..

Wow...I wouldn't be surprised if these kids come from a particular apartment complex with Section 8.
