There is a great little place in Helotes called "wine 101" where you can go, sit under the huge Charter Oaks, outside enjoying the breeze and watching the stars and enjoy a nice bottle of their wine. When it starts to get chilly out in the evenings, a wonderful place to sit around the firepit and enjoy some special times with friends and loved ones....very romantic.

I love the Alamo Draft House. Your wife could drink some wine and you can still get some pretty nice drinks for yourself. The food is amazing and you get to watch a movie while you eat. Good stuff!

Love Wine 101. They also have a location in Bulverde. They are different that Bulverde is more of a place to be indoors.

Have dinner at one of the restaurants at the Pearl and then take a walk along the extended Riverwalk. That part is not full of tourists.

Also, many of the wineries have entertainment on Saturdays if you want to have a day date. I know that the first two listed below you can take your own picnic also.

Texas Hill Country Wine Wines Winery and Vineyards in the Texas Hill Country Viticultural Area

Welcome to Singing Water Vineyards : Singing Water Vineyards : Escape to the Texas Hill Country

Bending Branch : Texas Hill Country Winery

Also, if you do head to Singing Waters or Bending Branch in the Comfort area I definitely recommend stopping in Comfort and enjoying some pizza at Comfort Pizza. It is super yummy. The Greek Pizza my husband and I loved.

So it looks like it has been awhile since this thread has seen any activity. Does anyone have any NEW ideas that DON'T involve alcohol? We have been to the McNay which was really nice but I could use some ideas. Thanks.

Me and the Mrs. did a date night a while back. We got a room at the St. Anthony and went down to the river and played tourist. We went from restaurant to restaurant and had 1 drink each and split an appetizer at each place. We did 6 or 7 places then retired to the room for the night. The drinks were alcohol but they don't have to be. You may want to pick a "pleasant" part of the year, not summer for this adventure. December might be really nice, cool weather and the Christmas lights on the river.

This depends on the heat. I'd do it later after the sun sets.

Go to the Pearl Brewery. I generally have never had trouble finding parking there. Have dinner at La Gloria's. It is a favorite of mine. They have light things too, and margaritas. Also, it is right on the River.

After dinner, walk down to the River itself. This museum reach part of the River is quiet and not crowded at all in my experience. It is a nice walk with flowers and art installations. Take off of the River and head to the SAMA. It is open until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. After that you can either head back up the River to the Brewery or take a River taxi further up.
