OK easy, statistics. Any other questions? I might add the other posting for comparing an Audi to a Kia is spot on. Oh yeah I was a stats minor in college...

Public transportation is worse. But on the bright side, we don't get shot near as much.

Because in San Antonio (and Texas in general), the Second Amendment is respected and law-abiding citizens are allowed to arm and defend themselves; thus it's not like in Chicago where only criminals are allowed to have firearms!

City with strictest gun control laws has most officers killed by gunfire

The City of Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the nation. Up until a few months ago, it was illegal for a private citizen to own or possess a handgun anywhere within the city, including in one’s own home. For 2010, Chicago also holds another distinction. More Chicago Police Officers were killed by gunfire this year than any other police agency in the nation. The city also boasts one of the highest violent crime rates in the country, with 1 in 89 residents being victims of violent crime last year.

Chicago, while a beautiful and fun town, has become a wasteland of crime and murder. Letting citizens legally arm themselves would slow some of that. As would getting rid of their corrupt government, but that'll never happen.

You've obviously never lived in Chicago. There a lot of beautiful neighborhoods and as long as you stay out of the rougher parts of town and aren't involved in the drug trade, you're perfectly safe, just the same as in San Antonio. While Chicago has a higher violent crime rate, the rate of property crime is actually 50% higher in San Antonio. I guess San Antonio is a wasteland too, by your definition?

I was just going through this thread and clicked on this link The Top 10 Most Diverse Cities in America - CNBC. It's not a very good source since it can't even get the stats right. San Antonio is 63% Hispanic, not 53%. This list seems to be saying "majority non-white = diverse." 2/3 Hispanic, 2/3 white, 2/3 black, 2/3 Asian.....I really don't see the difference. 91.3% of the Hispanic population here is of Mexican descent, so I don't really see the ethnic diversity there either. That's because it's using (old) metropolitan numbers. Basically saying "cities" but actually meaning metro.

The city population isn't 1.9 million. The metro population was once that, it's now 2.2 million.

Anyhow, metro is a much better indicator than city. For SA, for Chicago, for any place.

The Hispanic population percentage does drop by 10 plus percentage points from city to metro.

Someone gets shot or killed every day in Chicago. Please don't equate property crime to that. They're both terrible but let's not act like murder is on par with a car break in.

Thanks to Chicago's beloved Mayor Daly, the only people who are "allowed" to have guns there are criminals.

Despite a Supreme Court ruling that Chicago’s firearms ban violated its citizens’ Second Amendment Rights, Daly's administration worked the city’s laws making it nearly impossible to obtain a handgun license in desperate hope that strict gun control laws would decrease crime in the city. It has failed miserably, to the detriment of the city's overworked and outgunned police force.

In comparison, Texas more logical gun laws favor the law-abiding citizen, which greatly reduces crime here.

Chicago, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, also has some of the worst crime rates. New York City and Washington, DC are the same. As a matter of fact, here's a fun fact: 20% of U.S. homicides occur in four cities with just six percent of the population--New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Washington, D.C.--all of which have a virtual prohibition on private handguns (source: CDC, Task Force on Community Preventive Services, “First Reports Evaluating the Effectiveness of Strategies for Preventing Violence: Firearms Laws”, Oct 3, 2003 – a systematic review of 51 studies that evaluated the effects of selected firearms laws on violence).

Now THAT's the truth!
