Thanks for all of the ideas. The planter box idea is a good one and we've already had that done. I intend to keep a little of in "just in case" but I don't have room to store 4 pallets

I'd strongly suggest storing it on the yard somewhere even if it's to make a walkway with. That brick will be worth its weight in gold if you have a lintel break, add-on later, need to pull a window, etc. Color matching brick most often will never happen. Count yer blessings that you were lucky enough that the takeoff was bad in your favor.
Boy, you got that right, besides the fact that extra bricks come in handy for a LOT of things! I stored my leftover brick in the garage, and I was always going and getting one for something (to prop something up, weight something down, use in the garden to keep newspaper mulch down, etc. )

I asked for extra floor tile, too. Like brick, you can't match it later, and it's always discontinued!

If you have enough of it, I would definitely go the BBQ route. I would even go the brick planter route if you'd like to have a place to plant some stuff. Either way, don't sell it or give it away. You never know when you'll need it or want it.

Definitely keep hold of them! You never know when you'll need one and you can certainly get creative and make a few things people have already listed above - Flower beds, BBQ pits etc.

An outdoor fireplace would be nice, too. You know, for all of the nice, cool evenings! Yes, I'm dreaming!

I think some people aren't quite understanding how large four pallets of bricks would be. Yes, keep some, but not four pallets worth. He could build every project mentioned in this thread and would still have plenty of bricks leftover.

I'd just list them on Craigslist for cheap.

Yer probably right most don't know what a pallet of brick looks like but over the years I've probably had several thousand cubes installed on houses. A cube, not a pallet, is enough brick to cover 100 sq ft at 3/8" mortar line. While the brick count can be different depending on the actual size of the brick, the coverage per cube is the same. Frankly, 400 sq ft of brick is not all that much. It just looks intimidating and is extremely heavy depending on the brand with Acme being the lightest....and worst at breaking/cracking. Craigslist might be yer best bet if you just want to unload them. I wouldn't expect to get much for it as most folks can't haul it. A strap, 1/4 of a cube, weighs around 700- 1100 lbs, or about 16 pickup loads for your 4 cubes.

Another idea for you. If you just want to get rid of it, assuming you are in a new subdivision, get with the super that built your home and get the name of his brick mason. Call the guy. He may want it for dead brick on a job he has working. This is the brick on fireplaces that the brick is in the attic or behind front porch roofs on 2 story houses where the brick runs thru the front elevation. Another sub that may want it is the foundation guy to use as chairs on cable slabs. But these guys are not going to give you anything for it but they will haul it off for free.

Plus, how is something you paid for a "freeby (sic)?"

4 pallets of brick is WAYYY more than you would need to save for repair or another project. Storing it seems very impractical to me, unless you don't mind junking out your backyard. Sad to see your contractor overestimate so poorly. I would have demanded him buy it back before closing on the house. After all, you paid for it.

I'd go the Craigslist route.
