Heard that HEB at the corner of 1604 and 281 will be closing in the near future as they plan on building a "Pantry HEB" store at Bulverde & 1604. This will be a smart move given how crazy that intersection has become with the explosive growth. Now we have that huge construction zone which is making it that more difficult to drive there.

That's ironic as I was told years ago that there wasn't a real intersection there (Cloverleaf or other) because HEB insisted on an intersection that forced people to go by that store. If true, I don't know.

A pantry HEB - just full of their brands?

This doesn't make sense to me, that area is very busy and people would have to travel pretty far to the nearest HEB (281/evans, 1604/blanco, or 1604 bulverde eventually). Where did you hear this?

They are building in Stone Oak. I saw it referred to as a boutique store somewhere. The pantry stores they had years ago in Houston were lousy so I hope that's not what it is. As to the 1604/281 intersection that falls on the city. I was here when they finished 281 and it was long before HEB. No one understood the lack of an interchange then either!

There's also a store at 281 and Brook Hollow to the south.

I wonder if the Brook Hollow store will be expanded or moved in reaction to this, because it's kind of small.

The closing of the store at the interchange makes sense to me, because that service road the store sits on will have a lot less traffic and exposure once the flyover interchange opens.

I believe HEB owns the land on the NW corner of 1604 and Bulverde and has for some time. Can't wait til they put one there, crossing my fingers it's a plus and not a pantry!

Sorry missed the 1604 Bulverde part--just coming off an emotional bowup with 11yr old when I posted. I recently read they are putting the boutique store at Wilderness and Hardy Oak. Assumed it had something to do with Whole Foods going in on Blanco. My brother would love the Bulverde/1604 location!

That store is like traveling back in time. Anyway, maybe I just am used to having an HEB within minutes from my house, but it still seems odd to me that it would close unless they have plans for a store closer than 1604/bulverde.
