Demographics as in hispanic population? Just because there are more hispanics in this area now compared to Cisneros's time, doesn't mean they are all going to vote for Castro.... it shouldn't matter.
Voting for someone just because you are hispanic and want to see a hispanic in office is irresponsible.

Read the SA2020 web site if you want a roadmap of his goals for the city and a laundry list of accomplishments.
I don't agree with him politically and the word "railroad(ed)" comes to mind (frequently).

Default Noone,

None here have mentioned voting for anyone because of race. Moderator cut: Off-Topic The same old tired dogmatic
and irrelevant arguments about race, the birther issue, death panels etc. Those differences is where irresponsibility truly lies. Not about our mayor as a future candidate.

Castro would just make an attractive candidate for higher office. Do you not believe that many people would not vote for Castro because of race ? This type of balloting is not only irresponsible, it is very dumb. What do you think has happened here in S.A. for decades ?

MOD Note:

Be very careful with your words here, folks! Discussion of the OP is fine - discussion of National politics or racism in this thread or forum is not.

Stay on Topic!

He has either a 7-3 or 8-2 majority on the officially non-partisan council, so you can pretty much expect that the council will rubber stamp everything on the SA2020 web site. No one should be surprised when anything on that web site moves to the front burner and gets approved.

I don't think Castro has a shoe in for any future office. He is giving a speech at the DNC...but it's a very important one. I wouldn't vote for anyone because of them being Hispanic...it's about their character, their conviction, and what they bring to the table.

The national spotlight is going to give him some national spotlight practice that he needs if he endeavours to pursue other higher-up offices.

Voting patters exist whether it's "right or wrong."
