To handle future demand/growth SAT is planning to build another terminal "C" and will also extend the runways, and build a six story facility to house car rentals. The rental car facility will eliminate the need for car shuttles.

With the runway expansions they will upgrade them from general aviation to air carrier aviation. Plans also call for expansions to Terminal A to allow for more gates.

It will be imperative to be ahead of the game. With a growing city and our connection with Mexico, and Shale Oil air traffic will grow substantially.

Best news I have heard in a while. Our airport always seemed inadequate.

Hooray for more carbon dioxide emissions & the inevitable extinction of humanity. Seriously, though, since I'm a hypocrite and travel a lot, it would be nice to have more non-stop flights from San Antonio...

Yes, there are plans for those. They were drawn up ~15 years ago. You may recall that the airline industry was booming back then. The last I heard, Terminal C and the parallel runway are on indefinite hold, until the airline industry moves back into a period of growth.

The original plan was to immediately start on Terminal C as soon as Terminal B opened in 2011, but that plan was scrapped since no airlines were interested in more gates here.

Correcto... Those are old plans and they're firmly on hold until further notice. I can't imagine them wanting to undertake another terminal right now, especially after the drama that surrounded the new terminal getting built. It was a bumble in many, many ways.

We're stuck as a feeder city for awhile. DL, AA, UA and other legacy carriers don't see the need to put nonstops at SAT when they can just keep making decent money running MD80s to DFW/IAH.

I have heard rumor of AA bringing back the SAT-LAX twice daily, but nothing's definite yet.

Ouch. As much as I'm not a fan of SAT, the facilities are still superior to John Wayne. John Wayne still has us beat on nonstop destinations.

In related news: City Council voted on airport concession contracts this past week. Las Palapas and McDonald's will be leaving; La Gloria will be opening.

This is a long range plan. Think terminal C will be happening. Imagine SAT by 2030. Sure we will see these plans finally flowing through. I do like that SAT is centrally located and I can pretty much get in and out without driving/commuting like other similar or larger airports. Glad to see more direct flights here and being added. I am a HUGE fan of direct flights and make that a priority when booking my trips.

AirTran started a non-stop to Cancun. That's a plus in my book.
