We will be moving to San Antonio next summer, and we're looking for a safe, family-friendly neighborhood. The tricky part is that my husband will be rotating between Lackland AFB and Brooke Army Medical Center, and is supposed to live within 30 min of both locations. After that, our top priority would be excellent schools. Alamo Heights seems to fit our requirements, just not our budget. We're hoping to find a 4 bed 2 bath home, at least 2000 sq ft. in the 200-250,000 range. Thanks in advance for your help!

San Antonio is so diverse and has many different neighborhoods that will fit your needs. I suggest getting a realtor who can better hone in on budget and schools.
There are neighborhoods near Alamo Heights that will fit your needs and be less expensive. Perhaps the housing office at Ft. Sam can also assist you.

My husband has this requirement also. We ended up buying in the Stone Oak area this past Spring. My husband can make either base in the required time not including traffic. You can't account for everything and so far all has been good with a few minor traffic issues for him.

I love the Alamo Heights area but we didn't want a older home knowing we were going to have to sell in a few years. Stone oak offered us a newer home with a pool that we could afford in a great school district. Do I want to live in Stone Oak for the rest of my life, no, but for the next few years I think we picked pretty well. Time will tell at resell time.

Maybe check out 78232? Not sure of the age of your children, but the elem school especially (Coker Elem) is excellent. 78232 is a great location as well.

If you care about schools and can't afford Alamo Heights, I'd recommend staying within NEISD.

Lauren0319 had some good advice. 78232 is an area that'll fall into that price range, and give you everything else you're looking for. You may be able to get a nice place for even a bit less.
