Quick y'all!

My wife's b-day is today, and she's insinuated in the past week that she would love to go out to eat at a Mediterranean or an Italian restaurant. So I've been looking around, and can't decide on one! Moroccan Bites looks interesting, but it seems like with every positive review there's a negative one that follows.

Any recommendations for a good, family-oriented (I'll be bringing my 3 little kids with us) AUTHENTIC (no chains!) Mediterranean or Italian restaurant? That's one thing I miss about living in Dallas, they quite a few good ones up there, and even up in Oklahoma City where we lived last year. I still have yet to find a good place down here to frequent. Looking for a place where the owners and/or chefs actually come from the country of the food they are making. Our experience has been that the best Italian restaurants usually don't have the greatest customer service (it's true!!!) but their food is delicious!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I have spent time over in Greece, Turkey, Israel and Jordan so I love mediterranean food. In my opinion there is no really top quality place to get this kind of food in San Antonio. The best I have found are Jerusalem Grill on the west side, and Pasha Mediterrranean Grill off of Wurzbach. They are good-ish, and I would go back ... but at the same time they kind of leave me longing for some of the really great versions of those foods I have had in other places.

We ended up going to Jerusalem Grill, it was really good! The owner was very friendly and so was the waiter (both of them attended to us). Food was delicious, service was great, will definitely be going back there. The owner even offered to explain the entire menu to us since it was our first time, showed us a picture of his little girl (since we had 3 of our own), and just seemed very happy to have us as customers.

We were just there last night. Good stuff! I love Pasha, too. I just love that it's in the old Sombrero Rosa.

I love Zorba's on NW Military. Friendly staff and owners are Jordanian IIRC.

I've heard good things about Turquoise Grill San Antonio -Turkish restaurant but haven't been there yet. It's on my short list of places that I want to try someday.

Turquoise is good. Moroccan Bites is good but not birthday material. I like both Pasha locations. Had lamb skewers at the 1604 location and baklava last week. Yummy.

i LOVE turquoise! frankly it's one of my favorite restaurants in SA. it's one of the only places i've been where i loved everything they put in front of me, including the coffee (non-turkish). haven't been in quite a while though, but will be returning for our anniversary in a few weeks it's a bummer it's in a kind of crummy location.

i have little else to compare it to other than a few greek places (mina & dimi's, pupoulli's)

zorbas is very good too!
