His last column was in Saturday's paper. I am shocked and saddened that I will no longer get to enjoy his writing in the paper. Does anybody know why his column is no more?

I'm guessing cutbacks. Ever since Rivard "left", the journalistic quality of the paper has dropped significantly, in my opinion.

I will greatly miss Michael's column as well... as I do Cary Clack's... as I do (you get the picture).

Nope - just journalism.

Michael's column was just a joy to read - there was no need to interject political discourse into an article about classic video games.

NOW, our paper seems to be primarily a collection of political opinions/commercials for friends. Even when I read articles that I personally agree with, I find myself often thinking, "this article is really poorly researched and written."

Perhaps, but now he's cluttering up Facebook with near-constant postings about his 'Rivard Report,' which is nominally interesting at best. Would have liked to see him stick around the EN, quite frankly.

Print media is alive: It's the quality of journalists that is dying. University programs aren't teaching writing skill anymore, leaving things like cadence, flow and systematic grammar out of teaching journalism students how to craft a story. If you cannot write copy with some assemblance of structure and style, you're better off just flogging a blog rather than working a major newspaper or magazine.

This is awful. I enjoyed his column so much! I hope he writes a book; I'd buy it!

I did get a little tired of his recurring theme of the modern conveniences he refused to adopt. C'mon man, you're in your mid 40s, not your mid 70s!

We did have good some good columnists for the Express News and Michael was one of them but they are mostly gone now. A creative city inspires creative writers, well, San Antonio isn't creative at all. Now the Express News is Express Depression because it just reminds me how good talent is going and gone from San Antonio.

That's why I read only two papers now the Austin Statesman and the Wall Street Journal.

Since that happened in 2008, was their 2012 endorsement the middle of the end or the end of the end?
