Why don't the workers there pass the hat and get the animal taken care of? Once that's done sounds like a rescue will take it.

Great idea...will pass it along to son and see if when he runs it up the flag pole he can get a salute! Problem is he is one of the "in and out problem solving crew" members....vs the there every day ones.

Still trying to connect, he is out of range (who would NOT build a cell phone tower in the middle of nowhere so a momma could get ahold her her mancub??????)

HOPING he is at that site...will let you know when I find out...MANY of his work sites are in the middle of nowhere....go figure! LOL

That's a great idea. Please keep us updated. I'd gladly take him, I had 7 labs at one time, all strays. Now all passed on. But I live way up north in Iowa now. Money is always such a problem for these small shelters and rescues, and finding a vet that does pro bono work or offers services at greatly reduced fees is very difficult. If they can pass the hat, I would work on finding a vet. For that I would contact some of the shelters. Try the Converse Shelter and see who they use or would recommend. Getting some funds together will be a big help. I worry too, he may have Heartworm, that treatment is about 300 bucks at my local rural vet. It's considerably more in the city near me, that's the way it goes. If they can charge more they will. So a rural vet might work better for y'all. Thats something that needs to be checked before surgery. If by chance this dog would have it, some vets might say with the leg and HW too, its better to put him down. But I don't buy that crap at all, he can be saved. I've taken in strays for more than 25 years so I know a bit about all this stuff. Best of luck.

That's good news.

Our pets are always rescues. Right now we have two cats and one dog. I promise you if you rescue an animal off the streets they will love you to no end.

Amen! Our animals are all rescue as well and I can attest to the fact they are the BEST animals and so very, very grateful!

We have our greyhound "house sat" by our daughter when we travel to ensure she is comfortable and does not think she is being "turned back in" after spending 9 months in the rescue before we got her, and as much as she LOVES to go for a walk, she puts on the breaks when we are gone and our daughter trys to take her for a walk around the neighborhood...she KNOWS she has it good here! LOL

Sorry to say this but I have not seen very many places that will try and help with animals. Every time I try to get an animal off the street (without sending it to its death) people tell me they are full, get on a waiting list and other things. I understand that there are a lot of animals out there roaming the streets and space is limited. I went through this myself a couple of weeks ago trying to place a homeless cat. To no avail.. no one would take it... I always go back to the old .. be sure you can take care of the animal before you buy it... But a lot of people dont think like I do.
