Absolutely a must have but as mentioned before, do it yourself and save some money and ensure you get a good one. Builders tend to install the cheapest they can get and charge you through the nose for stuff like that. Just have them block it for you. Our builder blocked every room and the patio for fans and we bought and installed ours after we closed

I definitely agree! We're hoping they can block for 3 instead of one. Would be very nice. We have fans in every room. I'm glad I asked the great folks of city data. I love this forum!

Our builder blocked every room and the patio at no charge. Push yours to do the same

Agree with all the posts here. Definitely have them block and wire for it. You can get MUCH better ones for a fraction of the price at home depot or lowes. Do it in all the rooms, if you're up for mounting a few fans. It's pretty easy to do. It'll save you a good amount.

Steve's lighting has great fans. You can even customize them to fit your homes decor. I bit pricey but very high quality

Absolutely! It can get quite hot and not a bit of breeze, you'll wish you had one on those days. I agree with getting Hunter.

Good Luck.

PS: Since you are building, I've heard if you spread boric acid within the walls before the wallboards are put up, it will keep roaches away!

We have fans in just about every room in the house except the kitchen and the bathrooms and use them a lot. We did have to replace the patio fan as it was probably the cheapest the builder could install and the blades started to warp in the heat and humidity. The new patio fan indeed is "outdoor" rated and has some kind of plastic material fan blades that have held up now for four years without warping. No, we didn't build the house, we "inherited" the fans the original owners had installed but I probably would have done my own if I'd built the house. The one exception would be the family room....not too keen about hanging a fan some 20+ feet in the air.

We had made the mistake of not having the builders block them in several rooms when we had our house built. It was only going to be an extra $15 or so. I was fortunate that one of the rooms had a light placed on one of the beams, so that one was easy to install. After a few years of suffering in the house because of the heat (we live in a 2-story), we bought a large fan for the living room, and had a Mexican construction friend (who was used to doing work on huge homes) come over and install three more upstairs for a very good price. We have 5 in the house now and they are wonderful. When we finally install a patio next year we will also be adding a fan, our neighbors did that and we noticed that the skeeters tend to be driven away by the breeze.
