Not always...I have a friend who makes them to sell and hers aren't as good as HEB, probably because she does them as cheap as possible.

Good advice! We always had good luck with getting them from family members of friends up in central Texas.

in our old offices in Houston (6 story bldg) there were at least two ladies that came in with coolers in wagons full of homemade tamales. In two floors they were gone, so if you were on an upper floor, you had to have a good contact to tell you when they would come in so you could run your butt downstairs and get some! They were unreal. The closest I got to them in a restaurant was Berryhill; here it's Pappasito's.
