Need to speak with a lawyer regarding issues we are having with our apartment (we signed a lease 6 months ago with an apartment complex, the complex was sold and new owners changed all the rules and are fining us for things in their NEW lease that we never even saw or signed. They are also discriminating against race/religion-not even ours, but we know what they are doing is illegal). They have been total jerks when we have tried to speak with them about the situation and are trying to bully us around.

Does anybody know where we could get free legal advice to at least find out what our rights are here? We just want them to honor the lease we signed up for and stop discriminating against the Indian people at our community (which is the vast majority). I tried the San Antonio Apartment Assocation but they are FOR the management and said they can't give legal advice. Thanks for any help!

We used to call the Austin Tenants Council for advice, because San Antonio didn't have a comparable agency. Austin Tenants’ Council/Telephone Counseling

Here's a little bit of advice I learned from the years I spent in apartments: when the management/leasing staff don't like you, they can really make your life difficult. It's admirable that you want to help the other residents, but you're better off not making waves if possible until you can get out of the complex, unless one of you is going to be home all the time.
