Have had Time Warner now for 14 months and have had to replace the boxes in 3 rooms 3 times already because they loose signal and reboot at least 3 to 4 times a week in the middle of a show I'm watching. Tech came out once again to replace boxes and troubleshoot and still shutting down, he said the Cisco boxes were more reliable which we got and still doing the same thing. He said San Antonio got bad boxes but the service centers were still handing them out knowing the problem. Tired of paying $ every month just to have your tv shut down on you and take forever to reboot. Any advise on a better cable provider because they can't fix this problem at TWC.

Sounds like a thermal problem. I had all manner of lockups with mine - always after it had been running a while. They went away when I connected a USB-powered laptop cooler fans to the box and parked it on top. Here's a link to something similar.

I like the fact that you fixed your own problem Bo... but I have a problem with it in that Time Warner Cable should be doing the fixing and not the customer. This problem has been ongoing for quite a while and you would figure that someone at TWC would figure out that they needed something to cool the inside of their boxes out.

Supposedly their new boxes wouldnt do that.. and guess what??? Yeah they still do it...

Then maybe the place you're keeping the box isn't well-ventilated? The compartment in my entertainment center where I keep my converter box is not. But I want to leave the box right where it is, and I figured a service tech would just tell me to move it. Thus, in my view, it was my problem to fix!

That being said part of the problem could be the box getting overheated but would that also cause the screen to turn grey while watching tv and then sometimes get a black screen. TWC tech said they were having these box problems all over town because of faulty boxes and people were turning them back into the service centers and the service center would recycle them back to the public. Seems TWC would finally address this issue instead of wasting the techs and customers time.

Sorry not the case here... my box sets on top of my dresser with nothing on or around it... and it constantly reboots itself... personally I just think they have issues.. period.

We had this (and several other "service" issues with TWC up until last Nov...when we decided to change to ATT Uverse. NOT a SINGLE service issues since then!!!! LOVE ATT. I used to have the TWC service number memorized, and made more trips to their "service centers" to swap out equipment after I worked with them for hours trying to "reset" their equipment!!! LOVE my UVERSE....more than a year now without a SINGLE issue!
