I don't think hostels are a popular thing in the US at all. My son says no. Apparently he's checked into it and was disappointed to find that there aren't many. Some in cities like NY, San Francisco, LA perhaps. Although, hostels.com does show one in Austin at $22 a night and a few in Houston.

San Antonio does have a hostel https://plus.google.com/105866007563...gl=US&hl=en-US
It's located in Government Hill, across from Ft Sam. I am not sure I'd want to stay there though. We have cheap motels, so hostels aren't as popular here.

The hostel is attached to the Bullis House Inn http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels...antonio/30006/

From what I can tell, the hostel is in the set of low buildings out back. The main house looks nice but the hostel buildings less so. I've never been inside, but I do pass there daily.

I saw that one, but it said it didn't have any availability on the dates that the OP needed.

I've actually wondered if it was still open, as I've never seen anyone there, but the website for Bullis House is still active, so I'd guess so. Still, for a few more dollars you can get a cheap motel.

I suspect that perhaps the OP is using "easy" to mean "friendly"... just a thought.
