We love BBQ and found out the best way to do it is to do it ourselves. My dad is excellent at doing good BBQ and I grew up with a real good pit that was build for him. My hubby wants one and we are on the search for somthing great any recommedations. We want t good price as well but a well built pit. He found a guy who said he makes good pits that will last to past down to our children however we want to compare and find a great pit. Thanks so much

We have and LOVE our Treager! NOT cheap, but sooooooo worth being able to control the heat without "babysitting" the grill.

My hubby refers to it as the "path of least resistance to BBQ supremacy"...and we certainly ENJOY those results!

I second Jeff's Backyard. I've got three pits and want a few more. They've got a great selection and most importantly QUALITY stuff. There's actually a lot that goes into a good pit from the materials to where the chimney pulls from. They're great at educating you and helping you through that.

I went by Jeffery's Backyard a few weeks ago to pick up some thermometers for a pit I just finished. My third and, hopefully last, pit Iv'e built. Actually I was a little disappointed in his pits. They're all 1/4 inch steel and that is good but they just seems a little lack luster to me. If yu are going to buy a pit I would get on some BBQ Pit forums like 'The Smoke Ring' and get some opinions on what to look for. A really good pit will draft well, hold it's heat and not use an excessive amount of fuel to keep the temps where you want them. If it won't do that, then no matter how thick the material is or how many bells and whistles it has you probably won't be satisfied. I haven't seen anyone mention Bad Habit Pits yet. As long as your out shopping around you may as well drop by there. He's been in business a long time. Good luck. I hope you find a really great pit.

Lifetyme bbq pits. Made down in Uvalde. I drove down there several years ago and purchased one from their shop....saved a few bucks by doing that. Couldn't be happier.
Would have posted the link to their website, but i'm not skilled enough on my new phone yet.

Default Make a real bbq pit

[ nikip;28273912]We love BBQ and found out the best way to do it is to do it ourselves. My dad is excellent at doing good BBQ and I grew up with a real good pit that was build for him. My hubby wants one and we are on the search for somthing great any recommedations. We want t good price as well but a well built pit. What do you want to bbq mostly. If all you are doing is ribs and chicken anything will do but in my opinion if you are doing things like briskets, shoulder clods, pork shoulders and hams then build you a brick or rock pit for less than you would spend on one of these steel pits with all the dampers, flues and gauges. Mine is a rock pit lined with fire brick about 3 1/2' high 6 1/2' long (including the fire box) and 4' wide. I can get it hot put a brisket in, add a log every 1 1/2 - 2 hours and in 12 to 14 hours take out the best brisket you're ever going to get. I love it. I have a smaller grill for the burgers, sausage, chicken and ribs.
