I'm wondering, how walkable can any area be, really, if there's no grocery store nearby (like the entire Downtown/Tobin Hill/Five Points area that scored high on this scale)...?
That'd be my issue. I guess downtown has corner markets, overpriced but still, there are groceries. Tobin Hill though? Whatever. Sorry. I lived there for a couple years, loved it, but the only things nearby were some Mexican hole in the wall restaurants (nothing unique about that), a couple corner stores, and a ton of bars. Oh, and SAC.
Maybe I expect way too much?
Truthfully it was much more walkable than when I lived on the far NE side (Wetmore/Thousand Oaks) so I shouldn't complain.

And because Alamo Heights is its own city, it wasn't included. I found that to be an especially walkable area.

I notice the list of reasons that make the area walkable are inaccurate. Albertson's is gone, Acme Lumber is gone. Another grocery store that is no longer there, boarded up, is listed.

a little misleading
We live in Stonefield, ranked number 11 with a score of 67:
50–69 = Somewhat Walkable: Some stores and amenities are within walking distance, but many everyday trips still require a bike, public transportation, or car.
Hookaaaay...while the neighborhood itself is great to walk in, and while it is true that we
could walk to Target or Lowes or Kohls (Bandera Pointe), to me that's barely making the grade. You can't walk across the street from one side of Bandera Pointe to the other without getting hit by a car (no crosswalks), and I would even say keeping on the sidewalk and crossing the entrances into the parking areas is also dangerous because drivers are not looking for peds on the sidewalk, they are looking for an opening to zip into the street.
So, while the score is technically merited based on the criteria listed above, I would hardly say the ranking is anything to get excited about!

Walkability takes a lot of time to develop, unless you have a very well developed Master Planned community.
Once an area becomes walkable, why would anyone want to sell?

I tried my address, and got a walkability score of 42 out of 100, even though I live in an older neighborhood inside 410. I noticed the closest restaurant, drug store, and hardware store were all unfamiliar to me, so I clicked on them, and they all were at residential addresses. I think the restaurant may be a catering service somebody runs out of their house. Not sure about the hardware & drug stores. Definitely no storefronts on those streets.
