you wont make your 20 minute commute with the traffic from south/downtown.

you likely wont be happy there either, as there are better places in SA that have the feel/look you want (and loads cheaper).

go check out the neighborhood in person before dropping any coin there.

and machnke park? some parts of it look nice, but once you pass a certain street, its like a total dump. kinda strange, seems to be a san antonio-only phenomenon.

You make all of these proclamations without backing anything up. Have you lived Downtown, Southtown or in Machnke Park? I have, in all three actually, and they're fine spots for what the OP is wanting.

As for the 'better places' you speak of, why not suggest them and help the OP out.

I know way too many young professional "hip" (I hate that protentious term) people who love SA and have found a home here that reading a couple of the posts on page 2 make me laugh.

Southtown, Pearl, Lower Beoadway, RiverNorth and slowly Tobin Hill is turning into a place for young professionals.
