Check out La Marginal.
La Marginal Restaurant | La Marginal Restaurant

The chef there died in February of Covid tho. So, I don't know who stepped in. I haven't been there in about a year. Great Cuban food tho.

Not a fan of La Marginal. I don't know why so many people like it either.

the last time I went I ordered a Cuban Sandwich, and after I paid, they said they didn't have pork and if it was okay to switch it to chicken. I was like, WTF? chicken in a Cuban Sandwich?, are you mad? give me my money back! I hope they do better the next time, because the beverages were warm and the fritters were cold.

Uh, I'd have said hell no. It's no longer a Cuban. Not even close.

Totally opposite of my personal experience.... sorry your experience wasn't so great.

Went to El Coquí on Military by Lackland for the Cuban and not only did it take over 45 minutes to come out, it wasn't even close to a Cuban. I would describe it as a pulled pork sandwich. It had on thin slice of ham on it with the pulled pork.

Don't get me wrong, flavor was good, but definitely not what I'm looking for in a Cuban. The search continues.

Another option to try soon, later this month.

Quote:
Chef James Canter of the San Antonio food truck and catering operation Guerrilla Gourmet will celebrate his love of South Florida with a new sandwich pop-up, El Cubano, at the Five Points Local building July 30.
Quote:
Canter said his Ybor City-style Cuban sandwich will start with palm bread imported from South Florida’s La Segunda Bakery. The low-slung, crusty bread will be loaded with ham, mojo pork, Genoa salami, Swiss cheese, mustard and pickles, each element representing the Cuban, Spanish, Italian and German immigrants who’ve shaped South Florida’s food and culture, he said.
