Usually here: North East Independent School District. Currently, only Tejeda and Bush are capped (by grade level). New middle school opening 2014 should alleviate that.

Also, call NEISD Pupil Personnel at 210-407-0070 if in doubt.

Also, here is a link to some good boundary maps (ED, MS, HS, and school district) :http://www.neisd.net/neisdinfo/infomaps.html

Since I know you are looking at AR as well I checked NISD. The website states all elementary schools are subject to caps and you have to contact each one to find out. Checked NEISD for myself as son is moving onto Bush next year-he's already enrolled though- and their overflow is Lopez which I'd prefer because it's actually closer to out house! Oh well, if you opt for SO it won't affect your daughter with the new MS coming before she reached 6th grade. I'd check on the AR schools if you see a house y'all want out there as NISD is growing faster than NEISD so they could be experiencing the mess SO had before all the new schools opened.

Awesome info...thanks all of you! Yeah my wife and I keep looking at both areas (SO & AR) and just when I think we're leaning one way, we discover another positive that pulls us the other way. I'm guessing (and hoping) our visit in June will make the choice easy for us, but I have a feeling that may not be the case.

With regard to the schools...even though I'm reading more positives about NEISD, it sounds like both districts are leaps and bounds above anything we have in our area, so I guess we really can't go wrong.

LOL...valid point, and one that will definitely weigh in the mix! ;-)

While we're on the subject, what are some of the major shopping and dining destinations in the Alamo Ranch area? I haven't really been able to find a lot of information online. I guess it's because everything is so new there. Is there anything exciting coming soon?

I don't leave my kids home alone and I wouldn't let them walk home from school to an empty house. I don't know any elementary kids in my neighborhood who go home to an empty house. I know some of the middle school kids do and I know some of them take their boyfriends home with them and then the boyfriend leaves before the mom gets home (call me nosy, but we're outside most afternoons after school and you just notice things).

It all depends on the maturity level of the kid. My son, who is now in middle school, has been doing it for several years. I was more open to the idea because there were other kids on the block doing the same. He had specific instructions as to what he could/couldn't do, stay home, no friends, no answering the phone (unless it was us), no answering the door, no cooking, etc, let the dogs out briefly when you get home, otherwise keep them inside.

Obviously if you can't trust your kid to follow the rules then you can't do it no matter what their age.
