Ok I have done a search on this topic and looks like it hasn't been talked about in some time. My wife and I bought a new house about 6 months ago and it was not plumbed for a water softener. I know this is going to cost more to get put in but I have a friend that can put the lines in for me I just need a softener. I don't want one from the box stores because our last house had one of those and it started leaking and they didn't want to fix it so that has left a bad taste in my mouth for them. We keep getting calls from dupure but their system is way over priced 4k. So does anyone have any recommendations for a good local company that can help us out?

Hi,

I am certainly not local but I can give you some quick advice on a good water softener company. Look to those companies that offer a range of configurations for a particular brand of softener they sell. It means that they spend the time necessary to get you a proper sized softener. Do not get a cabinent softener, keep the brine tank and softening tank separate. It may take more space, but eliminates the need of tossing the whole thing out if one part of it fails. Price range you should be looking at for just a softener of this type would be $700 for a home with 2 to 3 bathrooms up to $1000 for a system that can handle a lot more. Bells and whistles not included, but the only really valuable feature would be a low salt level alarm, water softeners were meant to be pretty maintenance free. I few valve manufacturers that I could name that are reliable are, Clack, Pentair (makers of the Autotrol and Fleck Valves), and Hague. I hope this helps and have a great day!
