See the placement of the AT & T Center.

B. People arent driving in from Austin nightly to watch a MLB game. That just isnt happening, place the stadium in San Marcos and you have a greater chance to draw in people from both Austin and San Antonio nightly. Need to upgrade infrastructure in both Austin and San Antonio to really make that feasible however.
1.) Why do you say that SA is on path to have major budget cutbacks?

2.) Why do you think people will not drive from Austin to SA to watch a ball game? I'm in St. Louis at the moment and the majority of the fans that attend the Cardinals games are from out of town, especially from IL.

1. Because the city doesnt want to raise taxes and there are some major concerns with legacy costs of fire/police. Without any new sources of revenue, San Antonio is screwed. Seen by the new $1 fee on CPS bills thats now going to parks because there wasnt enough money in the regular budget.

2. Illinois is right across the river from St. Louis. And St. Louis has kinda built up their fan base over many decades and are the most successful team in the National League. Its like driving across town to get to a Cardinal game. Baseball is also the top sport for fans of the area. Fans will not drive from Austin to downtown San Antonio, especially with current infrastructure for mid week ball games. You are not going to get this fan base over night, especially in an area where baseball by and large can be argued either is barely in the top 5 or not even in the top 5 most popular sports in town.

They should move the Mariners from Seattle to San Antonio; their stadium is almost empty during games.
