You're right, visitors to S.A. would definitely attend games if we had an MLB team.
Baseball fans like to attend games in other cities when they are travelling, and check out ball parks around the country.
I have an uncle who has visited many ball parks and attended games around the country since he retired.
Years ago when I travelled to Atlanta for business, I attended a Braves game.
It's what baseball fans like to do.

As a die-hard A’s fan myself who’s relocating from the East Bay to San Antonio later this year, I have to say I absolutely LOVE this idea! I’m sure that, even with all the potential obstacles of a move like this (the team’s, not mine LOL)…it could still get done quicker and more smoothly than anything in San Jose ever will. The Giants are just NOT going to surrender the territorial rights, so the only logical choice for Wolff & Co is to move out of state. Portland and Vegas have been discussed, but to me San Antonio makes perfect sense as the 7th largest city in the US.

Lew…are you reading this??? Probably not, but one can hope!

Yes, they pulled good numbers, but it's still a novelty. While that does certainly show interest, you can't conclusively say that indicates guaranteed sustained interest once the novelty wears-off. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for SA to have more major league teams, and I definitely think this town could support both NFL and MLS. MLB, though, with 81 home games, seems like a stretch for this market right now. But I'd love to be proven wrong.

Sure they do alright but split that amount with another major league franchise and both those franchises will struggle.

But you asked about major companies, so here you go...

San Antonio has 5 companies in the Fortune 500:
12. Valero
101. Tesoro
144. USAA
377. NuStar Energy
394. Clear Channel

[Snipped for brevity]
The problem with quoting the Fortune 500 list is that the assumption is that only corporations with their headquarters in a certain city will sponsor local teams. But corporations often sponsor teams in markets where they have a significant presence but not a headquarters. For example, Toyota is a frequent sponsor here (Toyota Field for example), and there are several stadiums around the country whose naming rights were purchased by companies not based there. Plus, medium-sized and private companies (i.e. not on the Fortune 500 list) also sponsor teams.

Also, that poster literally listed the entire collection of Fortune 500 for the state with which the city is in and credited ALL the companies to the city . Very bizarre.

Get serious. The Astros and the Rangers will always try to block MJ expansion into San Antonio.

MJ?

They can try but I think their power isn't as great as people think. Same for the NFL.

Do you have any statistics to show that tourists and convention attendees actually go to games of the pro teams San Antonio already has? IMO, that's not a decision one makes on impulse, like which restaurant to go to for dinner. It's a conscious choice to travel to that city for the purpose of seeing a game.
As a baseball fan myself I always go to MLB games if there is one going on when I'm visiting a city. I've actually planned my vacation schedule around when a team is playing if I plan on visiting a certain city. Because of the horrible location of the AT&T Center you can't compare tourists and conventioneers attending a basketball game to attending a baseball game downtown. Not to mention baseball tickets are much less expensive compared to NBA tickets. After visiting all the bars and restaurants downtown, I'm sure a large number of people would walk over to a baseball game. Tons more baseball fans in this country compared to NBA fans.

The closest comparison to San Antonio is current MLB markets is, in my opinion, very clearly Tampa. Tampa's a little bigger (2.8 mil vs 2.2 mil [source]), TX and FL have similar economies and demographics, and both states have similar income tax laws. They would also share the city with one other more-loved franchise (Spurs here, Buccaneers there).

That's unfortunate for San Antonio, because despite the Rays being one of those most exciting teams in baseball last year, they were dead last in the AL in attendance [source]. Tampa, like San Antonio, has a fairly low COL, which is a big hindrance for TV revenue, the big determinant of how money MLB makes off a market. Simply put, the Rays are a major dud for MLB, and if contraction ever seriously came up, they would be very high on the chopping block.

Thus, because of money -- no, no chance baseball would fly in San Antonio.

Tampa is an all around terrible sports market. Their NFL attendance was second to last last season and third to last the season before.

The year they won their Super Bowl, they were 20th in the league.
