Lack of vision has stunted the Alamo as a historical attraction - San Antonio Express-News

An interesting editorial on how some feel the Alamo is not presented in an optimal light

I saw that today I skimmed it at a family outing, will go back to read it later. Did anyone else go to that event that was held there last year Better Block Alamo Plaza? I did & I have to say it was the ONLY time I REALLY felt connected while visiting the Alamo, they had actors dressed up in that era acting out events. I like history & still have not had much interest until that evening. They had actors dressed as Alamo heros, Santa Ana, women, children.... & narrators (best part) who explained how large the Alamo really was.... In addition to that, they had huge large tables to sit at & feast with a couple food trucks (ok that part was not authentic but it made it more worthwhile!) I wish they had that more often, it really made you think about those that lost their lives. Any average day it's boring there, no wonder people see the Alamo & think "wow that's lame, that's it?"

It would make a great place for one of those indoor amusement parks for kids.

I think the percentage of visitors to San Antonio who actually care that much about history is probably around 0.0000001%.

That not enough is happening there is the point of the article. The writer's point is that the city owns most of the adjacent land and it has done little to make The Alamo more appealing or more authentic.

The Alamo benefits greatly from being in the heart of downtown and fromfrom being an easy walk away from the Riverwalk - another Top Five attraction. I wonder if The Alamo could be self-sustaining if it were located where one of the other missions is, a car ride or bus ride from anything else that a tourist would want to see.
