How reliable are city walk score websites? I was looking through some of these threads and posts and noticed one thread where San Antonio's downtown was described as far from being walkable and just downright unpleasant. San Antonio's downtown walk score was previously scored in the 90's and one of the most walkable downtowns in the country but a few years later has dropped to a score of 81.

It is interesting how San Antonio's score has dropped so drastically, especially, when San Antonio's downtown is experiencing a resurgence.

I noticed my neighborhood is listed as "Car Dependent". I thought the score was higher, at one time. Some of the businesses that were previously listed (like restaurants, or retail stores), were for businesses I had never heard of, and were at addresses that were single-family residences zoned residential. Definitely no storefronts at those locations. Most of those have now disappeared, and only a couple are left. That may have contributed to a lower score this time around.

The bike-ability score wasn't very good, either. The terrain was listed as "flat", but I'm not sure how they came up with that. We actually have a few very steep hills in the neighborhood.

My neighborhood has a very high walk score, and while it's easy to walk and there's a lot to walk to, it called the local PikNik a "grocery store" which is ridiculous. So no, I don't think the walk scores are very accurate.

There seems to be a fair amount of construction going on downtown, which might make it less walkable.

For my neighborhood, the score is pretty accurate...it gave my neighborhood a 4, and the closest store is 1.5 miles from my house. Even to get on a bus, you've got to walk a pretty fair distance.

Just checked, my neighborhood got an 80 out of 100 for walkable and 63 out of 100 for bikeability and transit.
