My wife and I are both 29, a one year old daughter, and small dog

By the time we move to San Antonio we will both have professional degrees (only she does at this point). Any pointers on some good places to live?

That's way to broad of a question. Tell us where you will be working, how much are you willing to spend etc...this city is huge (area-wise).
I'll tell you what I've told everyone else...rent for a year...then buy. By that time, you'll know where you want to settle.

If you both have professional degrees, than you should be smart enough to search this forum on San Antonio to find out most of what you probably want to know before asking such a broad question. Not to be harsh, but the whole point behind this site is to find out info on this city; but it seems like every day someone else comes up and asks the same questions about where to live or work.

We all appreciate your cooperation on this! And welcome to our great city!

Cheers! M2

I'd recommend the Northwest Medical Center area or North Central - 281, north of 1604. Commute times have got to be a deciding factor. Personally, I always try to be very close to work (10-15 mins, max). I've been successful wherever I've been.
