I want advice on good areas to in SA to relocate (Renting)

I wrote one other post before when I wanted to move to houston but I ended up staying in NYC and putting off the move.

My mother now wants to leave NYC as well and will allow me to live with her until I get on my feet.

She likes idea of SA, I prefer houston but I would go anywhere as long as I get out of NY. LoL I drive but my mother doesn't and public transportation may be needed for her at times. She only goes to the store to grocery shop and things like that. She is retired so she will not have to travel to work and what not. I on the other hand will but could drive there. I want a safe area for an elderly woman but reasonable and affordable. I am not concerned about the nightlife or social life for my age. My only concern is safety for my mom. I'm not saying it has to be a gated community or anything but I just don't want to live in a war zone. I know everywhere has crime, I mean, I live in NYC for godsake lol

I do not care about the nationality of the people in that area.

My concerns are Cost, Safety, Transportation to shopping areas and the overall feel of the area. My mother will be paying the bills so I am not worried about finding work before I move (I know otherwise that would be a main concern). I will however want to live some where I would be able to find work once I live there and by work I mean anything from receptionist to cashier. I am a student and currently work in the medical field but I will take any job when I get there, walmart even. I just want to get settled there and worry about progressing in the work field later.

Thank You in advance for your suggestions and help :-)

PS: I know NOTHING about SA so please give me zipcodes, full names and details about these locations. In the event that you say there is no public transportation please give me info on the other things I mentioned. That would not be the deciding factor on us moving to SA.

What's your price range for a rental? One person's reasonable rent is another person's exorbitant rent.

Since you currently live in NYC, I'm guessing it's plenty high, but it'll be helpful to know specifically.

Under 2K the cheaper the better tho

I don't know the price of apartments out there, I heard it was much cheaper. We would need a two bedroom apartment or 2 family house for rent.
