I need a recommendation for a barber shop somewhere on or right off of 281 North - north of Bulverde Road or within 20 miles down the road on or near 281 North.

Before you answer, I DON'T want Sports Clips, Pro Clips, Great Clips, Cheap Snips or any that franchise stuff - I want to patronize an independent barber. I might consider a stylist but I'd really prefer a barber. Also save your jokes - I don't want a Flow-Bee or an Amish bowl haircut. I also don't want to look like I just signed up for the Marine Corps when I walk out of there.

Thank you,

swahili

Good luck with your quest. I didn't think there were any real Barbers left. If you find one please post the location. I have been looking for years and still have not found one.

I know this isn't near your location, but my boyfriend goes to Darryl Ruiz who works in Alamo Barber & Beauty off Broadway. He specializes in classic tapers but I know he'll be willing to do whatever you want! Plus he really takes his time.

Thanks, penpen631. I'm working to get an appointment with Darryl, to try him out.

Thanks to the other respondents, too, for the reality check. You're right, independent barber shops are almost extinct, but I thought there might be some in the more rural direction I specified. But - I accept that there probably aren't. It's kind of a shame that franchises have overtaken every business imaginable, but I'm also old enough to remember that the small-town independents in business were sometimes "too independent" and could often be a pain in the butt to deal with and price gougers to boot.

Thanks also for the Roosters recommendation. I've been there, and don't really have anything bad to say about them except that I was out of town for a couple of years, then returned - and I'd like to give someone else a shot. BTW, aren't they "Matador" now? The one in Stone Oak is - even though the same people work there and run it the same way.

The national chains have made barber shops almost extinct but independent barbers are everywhere. They don't advertise because they have plenty of business already and obtain new clients by word of mouth. Just ask your co-workers, friends and neighbors.
