Looking to take in a show at one of the local theatre production co.'s. I have heard that the Sheldon Vexler is pretty good? What is the quality of the shows, such as acting, content, etc. Is it worth the time and $$$. And what about the quality of this venue? What do you San Antonionians think and are there any others you would recommend?

We went to the Woodlawn Theater, on Fredricksburg Road. While I applaud their energy and desire to bring arts to the community, it was a bit pricey for what was essentially a high school production. (Granted, high school kids are pretty talanted theses days with the years of singing and dance lessons). That said, it was entertaining and I'd probably go again, just to support this endeavor.

In addition to Jump Start, which I highly recommend, there's also a Theatre on Josephine St. I am not sure if it shows local productions only though.

Also there's the Church Bistro - I think that's it's name - on S. Alamo, which is a dinner theatre. I don't think they do local productions, but I've heard they're usually excellent (the dinner only so-so). The building itself is worth a visit.

I LOVE the Cameo theater, going tomorrow to see "I love you, you are perfect, now change" which only runs a month.

When you go you HAVE to try one of their signature drinks "Black Cherry Margarita"...but be sure to have a DD...they are strong and gooooodddddd!

Moved to SA from Austin last year and we have found the Cameo Theater to be the best in SA. They show current off-Broadway productions and the theatre is very nice. Its in a historic area on the east side of downtwon right off of IH 37. Saw Menopause, the musical, Great American Trailer Park musical, and last night we saw I Love You , Youre Perfect, Now Change. there are great restaurants nearby so you can really make a night of it.
