If you don't have U-verse in your area, but AT&T offers landline phone service, they should also offer DSL. They are trying to convert DSL customers to U-verse, where available. DSL speeds are limited, though, to 6mbps max. download, and you may not be able to get that speed, depending on your loop distance from the CO.

Grande's service area in San Antonio is limited mostly to neighborhoods inside Loop 410 north of downtown. If Grande is available, you should be getting flyers in the mail. I don't think AT&T is promoting DSL anymore, even though it may be available to you.

If you move north of the city, you can get in GVTC's service area. That's the best Internet provider in the county

What does this mean, exactly? You're not in the UVerse service area? You don't understand UVerse?

I have TWC internet, and the only problem is the ever increasing rates. My GF called and complained and they lowered them back down.

The numbers I get are pretty good (at least I think).. I just ran a speedtest, and these are lower than usual but:

Ping 31ms
Download 15.9

I wish, or at least did at one time, we had cable Internet. We had RoadRunner in Virginia and we liked it. Moved here and couldn't get TWC to verify if our community had their service. We indeed did as my neighbor used TWC and their box was in the corner of our property but they steadfastly claimed they didn't. We went around and around with them for a couple of weeks while we were waiting to close on our house. They said they'd send a supervisor out to the house and get back to us but they never did. I finally gave up and went with DSL for Internet. Maybe they've changed their attitude but back then I had no interest in their TV or phone service only Internet so maybe they just didn't want to bother. As for U-Verse.....they've been saying our neighborhood is on the schedule but they've been saying that for years.

Except for the fact that if you want their service, you HAVE to get a land line phone.

The law on rural telecom cooperatives hasn't caught up with the public's wishes yet. Probably because AT&T and its ilk have more lawyers than GVTC and its counterparts.

Doesn't change the fact that the very best consumer Internet service in the metro area is available from GVTC.
