Perhaps you haven't noticed that the Texas legislature is badly underfunding road and bridge projects? They've been diverting fuel tax funds to the general fund for years. It wasn't until the very end of the SECOND special session that they put ANY money toward transportation this year!
I suppose we could start closing roads and bridges instead of fixing them.

BTW, I'm not against the fees, I just wish they would include everything under the property tax. We would have a better sense of total taxes. But, of course, politicians are so scared to raise taxes, they pass them as user fees. Gutless Texass pols. Lol

Saw this...x3 cars for us. Time Warner went up $2 for box rental, got my Tricare letter-premiums up (co-pays and deductibles are coming next), SAWS going up, CPS... I don't know what it is this week, but I feel nickeled and dimed to death. Sometimes I want to go off the grid and live in the woods. Oh, well...Happy LABOR Day.

I think we can all agree that the roads need some work. I don't mind paying $10/car per year toward the roads specifically in our county.

That's a good idea, but it ain't happening. In the last election, my state senate district replaced a 20-year incumbent with one who said that her top priority upon taking office was to "repeal Obamacare." I wonder if she has figured out yet where the money for roads and bridges comes from?

I think that perhaps a better solution is higher taxes(fees) on new residential and commercial construction. The country commissioners said the fee is needed for expansion of roads in recently developed areas.
