Don't the police have a firing range over in that area? maybe it was one of them but it could be anyone I guess SA was the only place I lived that warned you not to shoot for New Years Eve and take cover if you heard those types of celebrations!

I know of the Bullet Hole on Grosenbaucher but I don't think it's a SAPD owned range.

Greed, was that by any chance Tuesday night that you heard the gunfire. I ask because I was eating lunch at Fredricksburg & 410 on Tuesday and there was about a dozen or so police eating at the same place. They were all dressed in Paramilitary type uniforms. Side arms strpped to their legs rather than the customary holsters. I could not tell what kind of law inforcement unit they were but they all had an insignia that looked like this "1*". I noticed that they all arrived in squad cars from different police forces from outlying areas around SA. Non were in SAPD squad cars. I wonder if perhaps they were doing some kind of SWAT team training in your area. 7:30 PM is a long time from noon but maybe they were using that firing range near you as the last part of the training exercise.

Or maybe they were just sitting around drinking beer after the training and playing with the visual aids.

No, it was The Bullethole, I shoot there all the time. It is located just under 2 miles north of 1604 on Grosenbacher, and you can legally rent automatic weapons there...

Quote:
SIG SAUER 551 & 552.223 - $20.00 for 20 rounds of ammo.
UZI with or without sound suppresor rental fee: $15.00 per 25 round magazine.
H&K MP5 Rental Fee: $15.00 per 30 round magazine.
With the cooler, damper air sound travels more than usual. But it is nothing to worry about.

The SAPD training facility is on the southside, off of 410, and is indoors.

And just west of Lackland AFB across 410 is the Medina Annex shooting range, so you may occassionally hear automatic gunfire from there as well.

Cheers! M2

No kidding, that sounds like fun. If I ever go do that I will need to leave the MC at home or I'll max it out for sure.

I wonder if they sell gift certificates?

If it was automatic fire you heard it was probably Medina. The Army is out there all the time and you can sometimes hear them from a pretty far distance..

So...police, army, westside, shooting range, etc... If we don't hear gun shots is when we should be worried i guess. This is Texas baby!
