Is that a new Costco being built next to Walmart at Brooks City Base? Certainly hope so. Southside has needed one for a long time.

I doubt it. I think it's a Sam's. The last time I conferred with Costco about the possibility of opening a store on the southside they were adamant that they had no interest anything non-northside as far as San Antonio is concerned.

IIRC, Sam's is opening 3 new stores in town. One just opened on 281 North at Marshall Rd. I haven't been up there to see it, but I know it's open because I got a pitch to shop there a few weeks ago, while shopping at the Wal-Mart at 281 and 1604.

Since the early days of Brooks City Base Sam's has been one of the stores rumored to open there. JC Penny's is another. I don't know if JCP still has plans. If they ever did.

Sam's are always linked with Wal-Marts so I think it's safe to assume it's not a Costco.

Also, it looks like they're putting up a gas station near the RBFCU. At least that's what the framing looks like.

With no access road on IH37 south behind lowes that intersection at Military and Goliad is going to be much worse than it already is once all of land land has commercial ventures open. I'm not looking forward to it.

Default No Costco

We were really hoping for a Costco. Guess we will have to just keep on hoping.

That is a shame, not that I am a big Costco guy or anything but I grew up in South Bexar County and I am sure people would appreciate an alternative to WalMart, Sams, and HEB Plus. I remember in the 90's having to inconveniently drive all the way to the Northside-NorthWest just to shop at stores like Best Buy, Macy's, and sporting good stores. Eventually, those store finally came to Military Drive on the Southside.

People on the Southside deserve the conveniences of this store, if its about demographics or socio-economics, hell Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana, and Monterrey all have multiple Costco's, surely the people of South Bexar County can afford to shop at Costco.
I guess Costco just has an upper middle/upper class image to maintain.

It's less about image and more about bottom line, I would imagine. Monterrey has a very affluent area and something like Costco works there. There's actually quite a few Costcos in MX.

The Sams Club at Marshall is not completed yet. Still has quite a way until it is completed.

The Costco at 1604/281 is built next to a Walmart but I don't think that is the norm. Usually Sams and Walmart are close to each other.
