For those of you that have been around a while I just wanted you to know that Dr. Jose San Martin has recently passed away. He was one of the early Hispanic councilmen for twentieth century San Antonio. He served from '56 to '60 and then again from '73 to '75. He was also on the board for Lady of the Lake University and I believe the San Antonio Water board as well. He was a very active leader in the city years ago and was certainly a good example for citizens and other civic minded persons to follow.

My childhood neighbor with the same surname as Dr San Martin just posted on FB that his grandfather died yesterday. I have to think it is the same gentleman you are speaking of. I was very young when I lived near their family but I'm sad that I didn't know about Dr San Martin's accomplishments.

I think it was Furr dr and Fredricksburg Rd. second house off the corner across from what was then called Frontier Burger and later changed to Jims, not sure about that. I have known him and his family since the early 60's. I will post the service info when I get it if it's going to be a public service.

I lived in Shenandoah near Dr San Martin (optometrist) who I'm guessing was his son. My friend was a grandson born late 60s-if it is the same person of course.

-----Just found his obituary and yes Dr San Martin was his grandfather.
