I would like anyone's opinion on the two schools-Taft and Brennan. We live in Alamo Ranch and will be faced with the tough decision next year on what school to send my child to. Alamo Ranch is zoned to Taft but we were considering a parent transfer to Brennan. I have heard that the kids at Taft are tough and there are a lot of problems with gangs. I have also heard that the administration staff at Brennan is horrible to deal with. So, if you have recent experience with these two schools please let me know. Both my kids will be involved in sports at the school-baseball and swimming. Also, my kids are straight A students and academics is a big concern as well.

This is a shorter thread and a bit older but I don't think much has changed: Should Alamo Ranch be Included in the new Brennan HS Boundaries ?

I think the more southwest you go, eventually that school will be worse. Thinks about it, and look at a map.

Thanks. But I am looking for experiences from people who have actually attended the schools, not just opinions.

I don't think your going to find many high school kids on city data. Besides, you DID ask for opinions.

When I started College, there was a kid in my class last year that had just come out of Taft. He told in his own words a horrible experience at Taft due to the constant fights that no one would break up and that the teachers would give you an easy "A", since they would allow open book testing. I don't know if he was lying, but it didn't look and sound like he was. I have never attended Taft BTW and I'm just using hearsay. Good luck.

My friend's daughter loves Brennan, and she is very much NOT a rah-rah school spirit type. The football team is playing for the D1 4A State Title next week, the Boy's basketball team made it to state semi's. One of my nieces at South San said that Brennan dominates athletics though that is about to change as they get transitioned to 5A.

Not much but that is the only info I have.

If your choice is a bad administration or rough kids, fights and gangs, I think I would choose the admin problem...

I'm a native San Antonian and Taft was a rough school back when I was in high school and that was 20+ years ago... Our daughter is a Senior right now and Taft is not a school I would send her to... Of course, this is just my opinion...

What I think is sad is that many transplants, who don't know any better, are coming to SA and are being sold on the Alamo Ranch area and are being told how great all the schools are because they are in NISD... But as with all school districts, there are good schools and not so good schools within the district...

Keep in mind, I believe, you can do a parent transfer to any high school within NISD, so if it is feasible, I would look at other high schools as well if you are not sold on Taft or Brennan...

Thank you to those of you that have replied to my message. I should have clarified my original posting a little better to say opinions from those of you that have had experience with these two schools-either attended the schools or have kids that have and/or had attended the schools.
