Hello everyone,

I would be starting work in Windcrest / Wazlem area pretty soon. I would like to find a 1 bedroom apartment under $850 (max) in 15 min driving distance. My mother would be visiting me from time to time and living with me couple months at a time, so a safe, nice, clean neighborhood is paramount. I would want her to feel safe!

Having said that, what areas should I be looking at? I drove by Lookout Rd, just north of 1604 and it seemed really nice and quiet. Is the traffic from 1604 & I-35 junction bad? How long would it take to reach Wazlem road from Lookout Rd? Should I stick with areas North of 1604 or are Alamo Heights, Olmos Park, Castle Hills, Hill Country Village safe areas?

I seek your guidance in terms of areas that I should focus my search on? Ideally the areas be safe, clean, new apartments, green and scenic.

I sincerely appreciate your help!

I couldn't tell you exactly how long the commute would be, but the congestion in that area is heavy, even during non-peak hours. The other areas you mentioned are safe as well and would help you avoid that traffic (at least a little).

It seems like I always say this, but the complexes at oakwell farms. Legacy heights would be another choice. With in a ten minute commute, you don't even have to take the freeway.

Thank you! It's interesting, I read your post right after I spoke with the The Villa at Oakwell Farms!

Just STAY AWAY from the apartments within 1 mile around Windcrest. Oakwell is swell.. stay away from areas immediately South, West and East of Windcrest.

There actually might be some Garden Home-ish type residences within the confines of Windcrest. Contact a local realtor. Windcrest itself is a wonderful area.

I know this area very well -- was just there for a month in January and have a niece (late 20s) living in the area you're interested in. Here are my thoughts. If I were moving back to SA, I'd consider these rentals:
-- The Villas at Oakwell
-- The 1111 on Austin Highway (leasing, but some parts are still under construction)
-- Legacy Heights on Austin Highway
-- much lower on the list is Lakeside Villas (they were sliding a bit last year...don't know what's going on now)

A little further away/closer to downtown is the Pearl, with loads of apartments, restaurants, coffee shops, a farmer's market every Saturday. You might like the vibe there. Check out atpearl on the web. They're on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest.

Deeper into downtown are places in King William and Southtown. This, in my opinion, takes you further afield than you want to go. I'd stay away from anything in Windcrest or on Walzem.
