San Antonio weatherman says MLK slur was mistake - San Antonio Express-News

How can this possibly be a mistake? How do you come out with something like this if it isn't on the tip of your tongue in your vocabulary? I hope they fire him.

My only question is, if that was a slip of the tongue, what was he actually trying to say?

It really did sound like a mistake. An unfortunate, ill-timed mistake. I think he was genuinely horrified. If we had been talking about George Washington or Ronald Reagan, it wouldn't be questioned. I'm glad to see KABB is giving him the benefit of the doubt.

With that attitude there would not be very many of us showing up for work. We all say something stupid once in a while. Mistake or not it's nothing to get fired over.

I'm thinking he was rushing, and combined "K" with the "un" part of "Junior"... realized what he did, and then locked up and didn't actually finish "Junior". I don't know him (or watch the newscast), but this is what I hope happened.

All of the above is speculation... He said it, that's fact. Let's move on from there:

He's also someone, unlike many of us, who is constantly in the public eye, on television. Part of his job is to SPEAK PROPERLY, read through his copy before going on-air and keep things congenial/informational. He screwed up, whether it was his opinion or not and made the worst mistake he could have in regards to MLK. I'm sure from now on, he'll be a lot more careful when he's in front of the camera.

He apologized, but the commentary on social media was disgusting. Perhaps I shouldn't be shocked that San Antonio has race relation issues, but when folks think they're anonymous, they truly let their colors show in the worst possible way (facebook, twitter, etc).

Yes. Let's fire someone for misspeaking. What's next...firing people for typos?

Get real folks.

He probably had used that term before off camera, so it just slipped out. Sometimes the unconscious mind does that.
