I actually live in Schertz. You can get Time Warner and ATT for cable as well as Direct Tv and Dish Tv. We have a very nice library and new YMCA , a big park with a public pool. There are several other parks in the area. Schertz crime wise is pretty safe.Schools are good. Not sure on rents or house payments as my parents bought the home i inherited in 1978.House is paid off.Your city and county property tax is decent but as someone who works for the school district to me ;the school taxes are high and I have no kids or grandkids in school. However they are probably lower than in Bexar County. We are looking to build another elementary school soon. You can take the kids to Schlitterbahn Water Park up in New Braunfels.Has been on the Travel Channel and some others as one of the country's best waterpark.San Antonio is building a new kids museum and they have Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Seaworld San Antonio.
A lot of the towns around here have various festivals like Floresville;Poteet; etc. You can always go up IH35 N to Austin.
There are also various parks in San Antonio and also state parks near here .The Nimitz Museum of the Pacific is in Fredricksburg so you can see there is a lot to do.You are also about 100 miles from Port Lavaca and about 200 or so from Corpus Christi and Port Aransas. Lots to do there as well.

Schertz is indeed a great city and is considered family friendly; however, lots of traffic during the week. We live just outside of the 1604 Loop, south of Randolph, just north of I-10, west of 1518, and south of 78, in subdivision on Hallie Heights. Bigger lots than most in the area. It is still considered Schertz city limits, but without all the Schertz/Cibolo traffic, which can be unbearable if you go to work after 7 am or get off after 4 pm. Would be an easy drive for you to hop back on 1604 S to work. This part of 1604 is currently 2 lanes, but they are going to widen to four lines over the next few months. Our teenager goes to Cornerstone, so I cannot attest to the public high school in this area. We use ATT (u-verse) with no issues.

When we first arrived here, we rented an apartment on Lookout Rd in Selma, which was handy for 35 and 1604 access.
