Does anyone know if current year birth records (announcements) are posted for public information or viewing? If so, where can I find this information? I remember years ago the local newspaper use to print this information before the internet existed. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I think it varies now. Some hospitals will ask parents if they want an announcement in the local paper (which can mean community/neighborhood paper or city paper). And now lots of them do them online at their hospital websites so parents can just email their family/friends the link.

There is nothing out there for general viewing. You may find something in smaller neighborhood notices or church, but unless someone specifically put it online the city or county doesnt do it

I would call Bexar county vital statistics, and see if you can get a list of names and birthdays. I think getting birth certificates is restricted to family, but you may be able to get a list of what birth certificates they have.

Useful County Information (http://www.bexar.org/dclerk/F_A_Q_/Useful_Info/useful_info.htm - broken link)

I'm pretty sure that is how newspapers used to get the information, it is probably still public information just newspapers don't have an interest in publishing it anymore and the county isn't putting it up on the web due to the certificates themselves being restricted.

Interestingly this is not the case with Marriage Licenses, you can get those off of the Bexar county public records database.

Some hospitals have online "e-nurseries" where they will put info and pictures of the babies (of parents that consent). For example, here is a link to the different e-nurseries within the Babtist Health System: Find Your Baby Online With Our E-Nursery :: Baptist Health System Mom and Kids

Not sure if this is helpful to you or not, but worth a shot...
