Hello Ladies and Gents

After all the Holiday eating, I am looking for anyone who knows a diet that really works.

Exclude

South Beach
Atkins

Thanks

I am thinking IF I would drink the 64 oz of water recommended daily and stay away from the Mexican food (like THAT will ever happen??!?!) that I would be a size 2!

I used to call dieting my "hobbie" as it seemed I was always on one. I had tried every diet known to man. About 6 years ago I went to Weight Watchers and lost 50 lbs and for the most part have kept it off. What I liked about the program is that you eat real food. I didn't have to cook anything different, just followed the points for my weight range. I found it very simple to follow. It worked for me. Now when I find myself with a few more pounds than I like, I just go back to the plan and stick to a certain number of points for a few weeks. I found the meetings motivational and a good way to keep on track.

I also excercise regularly at Curves at least 3 or 4 times a week. Hope that helps.

Diets alone won't do the trick, you need a program such as Body For Life that combines exercise and eating sensibly to lose weight and get in shape. Most of the fad diets only produce short-term results and are non-sustainable...

And drinking more water is always going to be better for you! Most people don't drink enough water.

Cheers! M2

Simple: reduce your calorie intake (put down the fork)
increase your calorie expenditure (get up off your butt)

I said "simple" not "easy."

As a mom of 2 kids under 2 1/2 years old.....I plan to lose the baby weight by reducing my intake of carbs (but not cut them out entirely - I AM human!)...and eating a lighter evening meal - preferably salad. That seemed to work for me in the past - I lost 50 lbs a few years ago....

I also plan to purchase a treadmill to use while the kids are taking their afternoon nap... There are really great deals right now at Amazon.com and free shipping. For me, running is the best and fastest way to lose weight.

One thing you may also want to consider are the websites that offer free food journal and calorie burning logs..... Surf around a bit and you're sure to find one that you like...

Good luck! You can do it!

In the beginning how many minutes or miles are you going to do on the treadmill? When you say lighter evening meals do you mean salads, fish or soups?

I will probably run five minutes and walk for one minute for the first little while. I'll try to be on the treadmill for at least 30 mins. I'll take a day off in-between running if I'm sore but plan to walk on those days off. I took a "Learn to Run" course a few years ago that taught you how to go from not being able to run for more than a minute to being able to run 20 minutes straight. If you're new to running, or haven't been running for a while, you may want to see if there are any such "learn to run" guidlelines on the internet. That way, you don't push yourself too hard too fast! I can probably start with 5 minute intervals right away because I've been doing lots of walking with some short sprints (pushing the double jogging stroller).

As far as evening meals go...I will eat soup or salad (or both!) as my last meal of the day and definitely not eat anything after 8pm. I know this will be a challenge since I ususally eat an early supper with my oldest toddler around 5:30 and then end up snacking or eating another supper with my husband when he gets home from work around 8pm. I guess he'll just have to eat alone from now on!

I've lost 35 lbs. since March, 2007. I work out 3x week at the local "C" place, limit my carbs, have no sugar, and no sodas. I'm at a plateau now, but am not really worried. I've gotten a lot stronger, feel better, and had to buy all new clothes for Christmas!!! Of course, with Christmas comes a little food cheating, but it's not going to be a way of life for me, as it was before.
