Don't punish the dog because the owner is an irresponsible, inconsiderate jerk. It isn't the dogs fault. So tired of seeing comments like putting down red pepper flakes or moth crystals. It isn't worth injuring or killing an animal.

TXStrat, the pepper or moth crystals won't harm the animal - it WILL make it want to avoid the area in a VERY humane way. To me, that's the better way to handle the situation, to help keep things from escalating.

red pepper is a common deterrent. It won't harm the dog, the dog will just learn to avoid the area, much like thorns on bushes keep animals off the fruit.

Have a pesticide company come out and spray the area and put up signs saying it is harzardous to dogs. Or visibly put out fertilizer while she's in view. This isn't California. Most harmful pesticides are still legal in Texas, so use them to your advantage.

OK, here is a Pooper Scooper law for San Antonio:

Sec. 5-19. - Leash and pooper scooper required.

An animal owner or keeper shall not walk an animal without a leash restraint, and shall not guide or take animals onto the yards or driveways of property not owned, leased or occupied by the animal owner for the purpose of allowing the animal to defecate, but shall keep the animal in the public right-of-way, and shall carry a container and implement for the sanitary removal of the animal's fecal matter from the public sidewalk and public right-of-way adjacent to any property with a structure or other improvements thereon.(Ord. No. 2010-06-17-0555, § 1, 6-17-10)

...but the OP didn't say that the dog was defecating on the grass...only a large dog walking on it.

True, Pancho-Villa - but if she doesn't have the scooper and "implement", she's in violation. Problem being, it's another "feel-good" law passed that really is almost impossible to enforce.

It is almost impossible to enforce because several people in my neighborhood violate this rule and keep getting away with it.

Moth crystals pose an inhalation hazard in addition to the ingestion hazard. Dogs can become ill from inhaling fumes from moth crystals.

Again, it isn't the dog's fault it's owner is jerk. What's wrong with just telling the lady to stay the heck off your grass? Passive aggressive stuff never works. If she continues to violate your request, document it and take it up with the HOA if applicable, or file a complaint with animal control. They normally enforce those sorts of issues, nuisance barking, failing to cleanup after pets, pets running loose, etc.

Agreed about the red pepper flakes. The thorns brought back a funny memory. We had a female Basset Hound that learned how to pick blackberries off the vine without getting stuck. We moved from Texas to Washington and had a large number of vines in the green belt behind our house. My wife would often take said hound with her when she went to pick berries to make jam. Didn't take long for the epicurious hound to figure it out. She loved them, and it was hilarious to watch. She would only choose vines that stuck out from the main bunch, and would **** her head sideways and pull her flews back. If you've never seen a Basset baring their teeth, it's a laugh riot. Think vicious attack manatee.
